FUTURE MEDICS, DENTISTS AND VETS: REPTON SCHOOL CELEBRATES UNIVERSITY OFFER SUCCESS
Repton continues to see exceptional success in applications to medicine, dentistry and veterinary science, with pupils receiving offers from leading universities across the United Kingdom.
These highly competitive courses demand not only academic excellence, but also resilience, commitment and a genuine understanding of the professions, all of which our pupils demonstrate in abundance.
The journey to securing a place is rigorous. Pupils must navigate demanding entrance requirements, including the UCAT, extensive work experience, carefully crafted personal statements, and a series of challenging interviews, often in the form of Multiple Mini Interviews. Success in this process reflects not only intellectual ability, but also character, empathy and the capacity to think critically under pressure.
At Repton, this success is underpinned by a comprehensive and highly personalised programme of support. Our MedSoc provision offers a rich programme of talks, workshops and discussions led by practising doctors, dentists, and veterinary surgeons. Pupils are encouraged to explore ethical issues, develop their communication skills and develop a deep understanding of the realities of careers in healthcare.
Practical experience is central to this preparation. Pupils benefit from a wide range of opportunities, including hospital placements, clinical work experience, and regular volunteering. Our partnership with Royal Derby Hospital enables pupils to support patients directly through mealtime volunteering, developing compassion and confidence in real clinical settings. Additional placements with local dental practices, veterinary clinics and national organisations further broaden their experience.
Repton’s global outlook also provides unique opportunities. Through a longstanding relationship with the Neverest Foundation, pupils experience healthcare in an international context, working alongside surgical teams in Nepal and gaining valuable insight into medicine in resource-limited environments. These experiences not only strengthen applications but also shape pupils’ perspectives on global health and service.
Preparation for the application process is meticulous and sustained. Pupils receive structured guidance on university selection, strategic support for UCAT preparation, and detailed feedback on personal statements. Interview preparation is extensive, including multiple mock interview cycles and specialist guidance informed by current university selection practices. This ensures that each pupil approaches their application with clarity, confidence and a strong competitive edge.
This success also reflects Repton’s broader educational philosophy. Pupils are encouraged to develop as well-rounded individuals, combining academic ambition with service, leadership, and intellectual curiosity. It is this balance that enables them not only to secure offers, but to thrive in the demanding environments of medical, dental, and veterinary schools.
Dr Ingleston-Orme, Head of Science, who supports all our aspiring medics, dentists and veterinary scientists at Repton, adds: “We are immensely proud of our pupils. Their achievements reflect both their individual dedication and the strength of the support surrounding them. As they take the next steps in their journeys, we look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the world of healthcare and beyond.”
