FORMULA REPTON RACES FR101 AT AINTREE

Formula Repton, our Greenpower F24 racing team, made their mark at Aintree with their car, FR101.

Led by Frasier S, a team of six pupils from B Block to the Upper Sixth set off before dawn, loading the trailer at 5.30am and travelling north under a damp, grey sky. On arrival, the pupils attended the driver briefing, where officials emphasised the need for care on the slippery surface. Back in the paddock, FR101 passed scrutineering smoothly and the team prepared for the opening race.

The car immediately showed its potential. With steady driving from Luke P to begin and some outstanding laps from Nicola S, FR101 coped superbly with the conditions and crossed the line in an excellent fourth place in class. For a young team facing a challenging day, it was an impressive start.

Between races, the pupils gathered in the minibus to analyse driver feedback and performance data. Their reflections revealed three clear areas for development: streamlining driver changeovers, managing throttle and braking more efficiently, and refining racing lines in key corners. Quick adjustments were made and the team returned to the paddock with quiet confidence, eager to see what more the car could achieve.

Early in the second race, however, a steering fault appeared. With safety always the priority and the prospect of qualification slim, the pupils made the difficult but correct decision to retire the car. It was a disappointment, yet one that was handled with composure and maturity. Spirits were soon lifted on the journey home, with a welcome stop at McDonald’s offering a chance to reflect on the day.

What stood out most was not only the performance of FR101 but the spirit of the team. They had achieved a clean and competitive first race, identified and acted on tangible improvements, and worked together with focus and determination. Nicola’s lap times were a highlight, and Frasier’s leadership ensured that the group remained calm and purposeful throughout.

Formula Repton returned to Repton with pride in what had been accomplished and a clear vision for the future. The experience at Aintree has laid firm foundations for the races to come, and FR101 will return stronger, faster and even more competitive. This was not simply a race day, but a celebration of innovation, resilience and teamwork, values that are central to everything we do at Repton.

A very special thank you goes to Mr Osborne, Mr Grajdeanu and Doc I for their guidance, support and encouragement throughout the day.
