The Victorious Pilgrim XI

Archie Hidderley, Owen Randall, Will Tarrant, Oli Flindall, Will Richardson, Zach Wenham, Will Hobson, Callan Harvey, James Sookias *†, Callum Brodrick, Matt Steventon

Repton Pilgrims: 306 - 7 (50 overs)  [Will Tarrant 122, Will Hobson 82]
Old Cholmeleians: 124 (26.3 overs)  [Archie Hidderley 3 - 33]

On a fine but blustery day James Sookias won the toss and elected to bat, despite the threat of afternoon rain.  The two Wills, Tarrant & Hobson, strode out to the crease and were not parted until the fifth ball of the 37th over when Will Hobson was caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary for a fine 82.  The first wicket partnership with Will Tarrant, who completed an accomplished century in his first Cricketer Cup match, was 205 - the highest Cricketer Cup partnership by any Pilgrim side in the competition.  Will Tarrant followed soon afterwards and the innings stuttered for a time with the opposition taking some fine catches.  Oli Flindall (31*) and Matt Steventon helped to steer the total over the 300 mark.
A steady start to the Old Cholmeleian innings was halted by Matt Steventon bowling one of the openers round his legs.  Callum Brodrick weighed in with two quick wickets leaving the opposition on 24 for 3 after 9.2 overs.
The combination of the two leg-spinners, Archie Hidderley (another debutant) taking three and Will Tarrant two wickets respectively, left their innings in tatters on 61 for 8 after 19.5 overs.
At this point the number 3,  Ben Miller cut loose hitting 58 runs in 6 overs before eventually falling to an excellent running catch over his shoulder by Owen Randall off one of Will Richardson's "darts".
A strong overall performance by a young team with four debutants in the XI mean that the Pilgrims will take on the Eton Ramblers who defeated our last year's nemesis Old Amplefordians in the next round on Sunday 29th June at Eton.
