SCHOLARSHIPS

To be a Scholar at Repton is a major achievement and one that parents and pupils should be proud.

Scholarships recognises academic ability or distinctive talent across Academic, Music, DT, Art, Drama, Sport, all-rounder (13+ entry only) and are awarded at 13+ and 16+ entry only. Our Scholarships are awarded in open competition and solely on merit. 

In receiving a scholarship, pupils join a long and distinguished line of previous award holders. Whether you are an academic, an artist or an athlete, a Repton education assures you health and balance in all things. As well as honing particular strengths and talents we expect Scholars to take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to at Repton and lay the foundations for personal fulfilment both during their education and into their future careers.

Charles Burgess Fry

Charles Burgess Fry was not only Repton’s greatest all-rounder but probably the most celebrated all-rounder of his generation. Fry arrived at Repton with an Academic Exhibition in 1885 and then enjoyed an outstanding school career, winning prizes for German, Latin prose and verse, Greek verse and French. Besides being an excellent debater and actor, he was also an accomplished singer. However, it was on the sports field that he made his greatest mark. He was a member of the School’s 1st XI football team from the age of 15, a first-class sprinter, hurdler, high and long jumper and in cricket he was equally impressive as a bowler or a batsman.

Today, C B Fry's legacy of all round excellence is celebrated in every Reptonian as we aim to develop a set of skills - rather than a single attribute. Individuals deemed worthy of a C B Fry Award will possess the ability to inspire and lead others and will be naturally gifted in a variety of fields. It is also expected that they will make a significant contribution to School life during their time at Repton.

The value of a Scholarship may vary from an honorary (or titular) award up to the maximum value of 10% remission of the Repton fee. It is the School’s usual policy to limit the value of awards to 10%; should a pupil sit for more than one type of scholarship and is successful in more than one then the combined value of all awards will not exceed 10%, although they will be entitled to the full prestige of all the awards won.
