Young Quartet in Summer Performance

On Friday 17th July the Clover Quartet will be performing in a lunch time concert at Derby Cathedral.

The quartet was formed in 2007 by Repton School's Graham Oppenheimer (Director of Strings), in preparation for a weekend quartet workshop at Chethams School of Music. At 14 years old, Joanna Holroyd (F'08) on the cello and Ruth Heney (Loughborough High School) on 1st violin are the veterans of the group as the only two original members.

In 2008 two keen and even younger musicians, Katie Jankinson from Foremarke Hall on 2nd violin, and Hannah Robinson from Chethams School of Music on the viola – still only 11 and 12 respectively – joined the team.

They practise individually every day, sometimes for up to two hours and their quartet rehearsals are regularly longer; it is astonishing that a group of such young musicians can be so dedicated. Rehearsals are held in The Hall at Repton, often playing repertoire which would have been played when the building was built.

The programme the Clover Quartet will be playing in Derby Cathedral is:
Mendelssohn String Quartet in Eb Op 12 - 1st and 2nd Movements
Mozart Oboe Quartet – 1st movement (with guest oboist Joseph Jankinson, due to start at Repton in September 2009)
Haydn “The Lark” Quartet – all four movements.

The concert begins at 1pm and admission is free.

The girls have also been offered their first professional engagement in July for a garden party - they may even be available for weddings soon!
