It was lovely to see three performances from Mitre girls in this week’s House music individual award finals with all three girls performing with real composure in what was a highly contested competition.
In the Junior section of the competition Charlotte Graham 4M performed “Der Nussbaum”, composed by R. Schumann. Charlotte sang with real conviction and was very controlled in front of a packed audience in the Beldham Hall. It was lovely to see her confidence, and the way in which she engaged the audience. The adjudicator Adrian Partington was very encouraging in his praise for her performance.
The Senior competition included Harriet Yeung U6M and Kiki Betts Dean L6M both playing piano. Harriet played “Consolation No. 3 in Db” by F. Liszt. Harriet played beautifully and it was wonderful to hear the silence that descended on the auditorium at the end of the piece before a resounding round of applause. Kiki also played superbly, wowing the audience with her memorised rendition of “Fantasie-Impromptu, Op.66 in C#m” by Chopin. Kiki played with some marvellous dynamic contrasts in her rendition and it was truly mesmerizing to see such an accomplished performance.
All three girls were a joy to watch, and it is superb to see the level of musicianship and talent, both in the Junior competition and in the senior section. All three girls should be congratulated for their preparation and execution of their pieces – they did the Mitre proud!
