On Wednesday night a number of Repton’s finest musicians came together to give a thrilling concert. Scholars and Exhibitioners from across the school had auditioned to take part in this 1 hour evening concert, and they did not disappoint. It was wonderful to have three Mitre girl’s amongst the performers and they all acquitted themselves magnificently.
Polly Sloman (3M) gave a mesmerizing performance of “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano”, mvt. 2, by F. Poulenc. She showed real poise and confidence as she delivered her piece to the audience and the collective group sat very still as she played the final notes of her piece. Despite having her A2 Music examination the following day Emma Monteiro (U6M) beautifully sang “Foxgloves” by M. Head and it was a genuine treat to hear “Repton’s Young Musician of the Year” in one of her final performances. Elegant and beautifully crafted, as ever, Emma sang radiantly to an enchanted audience. This was followed later by a stunning performance from Charlotte Graham (5M) of “Silent Noon” by V. Williams. Charlotte is an incredibly gifted singer and it was wonderful to hear her as the sound of her voice resonated around the Beldham Hall. There is no doubt that she will come back even stronger after attending the Eton choral course this summer and we very much look forward to hearing her perform again next year.
Well done indeed to all the Mitre performers who added to the depth and breadth of a very entertaining and diverse evening which show-cased some wonderful musical talent from across the year groups and musical disciplines.
