Wiz hat-trick in National Hockey Final

Wiz hat-trick in National Hockey Final

A hat-trick of 3 goals by Wiz Mumby (U.6) added extra gloss to the amazing triumph of the Hockey Team at the National Indoor Finals against Millfield at the weekend. Also featuring in the tournament were Becky Seibert (U.6) who scored the other 2 goals in the 5-1 win, Lauren Finch and Fabienne Peters (Both L.6).

Hockey coach Martin Jones has mentioned on several occasions this term, what an outstanding indoor hockey player Wiz has become. Wiz is currently Captain of the Wales U18 (outdoor) team and she is also playing for Beeston Hockey Club in the National Indoor Finals for clubs that are being played this weekend. We wish her well in a typically busy term.

Wiz has kindly jotted the following report of the National Tournament that was held in Southampton:

‘Having won last year we were keen to win again. The whole team played really well and everyone had pitch time. Lauren and Fab. had their best game against Sedbergh and they will be the main members of the team next year.
Our hardest game was against Coopers Coborn in the Semi-Final, as they were a very good side and quite aggressive. There were many cards awarded in that game!

Wiz and Becky worked well together. Both scored many well-earned goals. The final was especially good, with Becky scoring 2 and Wiz a hat-trick to make our total of 5.’

All four girls will also feature in the campaign to retain the Outdoor title for the seventh time. The Midlands Finals will be at Rugby on 6th February.

Maddy Kelly (O Block) also travelled to Southampton with the U16 Team for their finals, which were played at the same venue. Maddy played well in the tournament and really enjoyed the experience. The team competed well, winning 1 and losing 3. Maddy has had a great season, including making her first appearance for the 1st team outdoors.
