As ever, the annual Wear What You Dare day was great fun at The Abbey. All of the girls entered into the spirit of the event by dressing up and making donations to the nominated charities. The 6th Form went a step further by auctioning themselves, to be 'Slave for the Day' to Junior members of the House, (An initiative which has already raised over £250).
There were boxers, clowns, M&Ms and even fish fingers! The girls really led the way.
It cannot be a coincidence that 5 out of the 21 pictures featured on the School Website report of the day, were of Abbey Girls. The Burton Mail also had excellent photographs of clowns, Simone Matthews and Jess O'Meara on the front page and Fishfingers, Harriet Welch and Freya Charnley.
The day got off to an early start, with 'Slaves' carrying out tasks for their young 'Mistresses' at breakfast. This included menial tasks such as carrying books, to the more difficult challenge of eating breakfast without using their hands.
After the excitement of comparing costumes with other students on the way to lessons, there was the added entertainment of Slaves accompanying younger students to their lessons (while they had free lessons of course!).
Lunch was also a lively affair with stories being swapped and further tasks being set. Shona McCallin recited 'Humpty Dumpty' to the whole room, and German students Freiderike Juncker and Rebecka Siebert, raised rapturous applause after they gamely sang their national anthemn. Charly Wright also showed what a multi-talented girl she is, by performing gymnastic back-flips!
The scene is now set for the Sale of Work event around school on Saturday and of course The House Cabaret in a week's time (Saturday 15th November).
