"We are yet but young in deed"

Guy Levesley first directed “Macbeth” in Repton as an ambitious, site-specific, promenade production thirteen years ago, in settings through The Arch, around The Ruins and in The Garth with now Old Reptonians, Nicholas Burns (currently appearing in “Ghost Stories” at The Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End) and Tom Chambers (soon to take the lead in The Ambassador Theatre Group’s revival of “Big – The Musical” on tour and in the West End) playing Macbeth and Macduff respectively. In 2002, he revived the show for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – the largest arts festival in the world – with Olivia Poulet (“The Thick of It”, “Reggie Perrin”, “Sherlock”) as Lady Macbeth, enjoying outstanding reviews and full houses.

In the lead up to the eagerly awaited opening of the re-developed 400 Hall, Guy has again created a site-specific production, this time to be performed in Pears School – perhaps as the last show in this historic venue for many years.

If weather permits, this innovative production will burst onto the steps of Pears School, before progressing into the building. Audience members will then be seated on two sides facing each other as full use is made of the atmospheric space and they become passive observers of a tale of terror, ambitious power politics and perhaps most significantly, fear. Such stories continue to appear with sickening regularity in world news – the play has an undeniable contemporary resonance.

A large cast is supported by an extensive crew of technicians in the style of 2007's memorable “Son et Lumière” for a production that is dark, brutal and compelling, yet accessible to pupils, their parents, grandparents and friends of the school.

Tickets, which are free, are available on a first-come basis but, because of the nature of this production, they are limited. They can be ordered by telephone (01283 559343) or e-mail theatres@repton.org.uk.
