Some of the best U15 and U16 football scholars at Manchester United’s Football Academy visited Repton earlier in the week for a match against a team made up of our U15/U16 pupils.
The close relationship between Manchester United and the School has involved us hosting various prestigious fixtures between Academy teams including Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Repton teams visiting the Carrington training centre to play matches against the Manchester United link school of Aston-on-Mersey.
During the visit the football scholars had a tour of the School and had lunch in various Boarding Houses before playing. The match was played in great spirit with the visiting team winning 5 –1, although Repton did lead 1-0 at half-time.
Commenting after the day, Tony Whelan, the Manchester United’s Assistant Academy Director said, “We feel, strongly, that these visits greatly enhance the work we do with our aspiring professional footballers, by showing them other kinds of high quality educational establishments.
We hope to continue this extremely positive collaboration with the School well into in future and I would like to thank all the staff at Repton for all their help, support and hospitality over the last few years.”
