Match Report:
Priory LSST were strong opposition, and their U15 players deserve credit for their sportsmanship and impressive self-organisation, particularly since they were without a member of staff. Having travelled cross-country to Lincoln, Repton certainly made a slower start and Priory gradually established a clear lead. Charlotte Graham did her very best to stay with a fast centre who had both the stamina needed at this position and the skill to drop the ball in exactly the right place for every centre pass. Equally, Kate Benn and Heather Marsay had their work cut out trying to mark two dynamic shooters, who seemed able to pick the ball up and float it into the goal from just about anywhere.
Repton’s second and final quarters were their best periods of play; in the second quarter shooters Pip Sanders and Ellie Sharples scored 4 goals to Priory’s 2, whilst the last quarter was even at 7 goals apiece. The final quarter was also the most exciting, with Repton briefly bringing themselves tantalising close to matching Priory’s score before the Lincoln side re-established control and pulled ahead by 3 goals.
Despite losing, the Repton side never gave up and their work rate was faultless throughout the match. The experience gained from playing a strong team with many club players will also hopefully benefit our game looking forward to the fixtures ahead. NJC
