Match Report:
This was the first time I have had the opportunity to watch the Under 15A team in action this term, and I was not disappointed. The girls are undoubtedly feisty and eager to win, and they are clearly an athletic mob! That said, today was not their day, and when that happens you just have to hold your hands up, try really hard to make it your day, but most of all smile at the end of it, and be able to say 'well at least we gave it our best shot!'. Oundle made a quick start, and intercepted our very first centre pass (my one criticism....holding the ball at waist height that meant Oundle were able to intercept our passes!). This immediately put us on the back foot, and then they did the same again. We managed to re-group and fight a couple of centres back but ended the first quarter at 8 goals to 3 down. The second quarter was much more positive...fewer unecessary mistakes, a few very valuable interceptions (particularly in the centre court thanks to Charlie Graham) and a slight dip from the Oundle team. By half time the score was 13 goals to 7, and on any other day we could have clinched the match from there. Unfortunately we struggled to convert balls in the circle into goals, and actually feeding the ball into the circle was intercepted on numerous occasions. Oundle came out guns blazing, and went on to score an impressive 17 goals in 2 quarters and we simply couldn't keep up. That said, I was very proud to see the girls play with such spirit ; Miss Collins would also have been very proud of them - their heads never dropped, they never resorted to 'ugly' netball, and the whole team congratulated the Oundle girls on an impressive performance. It just wasn't meant to be today! NMO
