Match Report:
This was an excellent final game, with which to end the season. The girls were in great spirits and showed from the very beginning of the match their determination to play good netball and apply all their skills.
The first quarter was very tight, with Repton leading at the end of the quarter by 6 goals to 5. There was some good shooting in this quarter from Phoebe Roberts and Alicia Stevens and both girls had to work hard to get round some strong Uppingham defence. It was good to see Charlotte Perkins working very hard at centre to keep the momentum of the game. She was consistent throughout the match, and worked really hard to turn the ball around for Repton. She has throughout the season made the position of Centre her own, and should be delighted with how she has played today against a strong opponent from Uppingham.
In the second and third quarters Uppingham upped their game, and played some strong defensive netball, leaving us with very few opportunities to get the ball into the circle. Lucy Edwards, Rachel Higgins and Zoe Furness all worked tirelessly to keep defending the ball and stop Uppingham having too many opportunities in the circle. It was good to see them here running out to make the interception.
Ellie Rylands came back on court in the fourth quarter and played some superb netball, making critical interceptions to stop Uppingham having too many opportunities. There was also some great play from the wings - Sevvy Matthews and Amy Davies who played some excellent passes around the circle and in the centre third. In this quarter Repton picked up their flow again, and having been behind 18-12 in the early part of this final quarter played some brilliant netball to score 6 goals to Uppingham's 3. With Repton winning 2 quarters and Uppingham 2, it was a very even match, played in good spirit by both teams.
This team have had a great season and should be delighted with all they have achieved. The final score of 18-17 to Uppingham is a reflection of the consistency of their effort - well done indeed.
