Match Report:
This was a tough match for the girls and the final score of 13 goals each was a fair reflection of this tough game, well fought by by both teams.
The girls worked very hard in the first quarter scoring 4 goals, and going just ahead of Rubgy with 3 goals. The shooters - Phoebe Roberts and Alicia Stevens had to work hard in the circle, and it was down to the good defensive play of Rugby that Repton did not get further ahead in this first quarter.
The second quarter was also close, with Repton just maintaining their lead with 7 goals to 6. This was mainly due to the excellent centre court play of Amy Davies, Sevvy Matthews and Charlotte Perkins who kept creating opportunities for Repton by making some excellent interceptions and turning the ball around as it passed through the middle of the court. It was also good, in this quarter, to once again see the versatility of Rachel Higgins who played some really good netball both in defence and in her attacking position as a shooter.
The two sides finished the third quarter with 9 goals apiece, and demonstrated just how close this match was. Zoe Furness played well in defence and made sure the Rubgy shooters had to really work hard to win back the ball. Ellie Rylands was superb in the final quarter making sure she took the re-bounds and intercepted in the Rugby circle. Lucy Edwards also proved formidable in defence and it was her interceptions that made all the difference on the day. The final score of 13 all was a reflection of a tight game, keenly fought.
This side continues to show a steely determination and is playing some excellent netball, which reflects a wonderful attitude to training and playing. Well done girls on another excellent match, you should be very pleased with your performance against a strong Rugby side.
