For this year the Orchard decided to do a rendition of Cee Lo Green’s Forget You. There was a lot of support in the House for such a modern song and we thought that this would inspire us to put an effort in and make it the best Unison yet. Trying to keep a whole House of boys under control is hard at the best of times but trying to get them to sing too was always going to be difficult, but the song meant that we had a lot of enthusiasm in the House and everyone put their all in. After a few rehearsals the song began to come together, eventually leading to Mrs. Palmer saying that we were in with a real shot.
How right she was. After adding our actions and brushing up on our stage presence we were ready to let the School see our work. Following some good starting performances from Abbey, Garden, Mitre, School and Priory we were still confident that if we got it right we were in with a chance. Our performance itself was not flawless but we definitely had the most fun out of everyone and that seemed to please the judge who commented on our clear enjoyment of the song throughout.
We felt it was between us, New and School for the boy’s trophy but that New House had a chance of winning the overall prize. However, this did not diminish our delighted shock when we were announced as the Boys’ Winners something which the House has not done in my entire time in The Orchard. It was a great pleasure to conduct a song which was clearly enjoyed by both performers and audience alike and we thoroughly deserved to win with the amount of effort we put in and now next year’s cohort has something to live up to.
