The indoor hockey season has got off to a winning start after three of our squads were each crowned Midlands champions at the weekend.
Victory for the U16 girls, the U16 boys and the U18 girls in the regional finals at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton sees them all qualify for the national finals in this top indoor competition for schools from around the country.
The U16 girls drew 2-2 with Bablake and Malvern, beat Kings High convincingly with a 4 – 0 victory and secured their place as the Midlands Champions for the second successive season with a 2 – 1 win - achieved by a final minute goal - over RGS Worcester.
The U16 boys’ score sheet included impressive 7 – 0 and 5 – 1 wins against Malvern and Warwick while the U18 girls, current holders of the National Indoor and Outdoor titles, were awarded the Midlands crown after scoring thirty goals in their six matches.
The two girls’ teams will compete in the national finals over the weekend of January 14 - 16 in Eastleigh, while the boys will be competing during the same weekend, with their championship in Croydon.
Commenting on the triple success, Director of Hockey Martin Jones said: “We are very pleased for every one of the players involved; their victories reflect the dedication and determination they have maintained this term.
“The performances across the age groups and gender underline that our successes are not the result of one or two outstanding individuals but are achieved through all-round training and preparation programmes available to everyone.”
