This term is dominated by hockey for the girls at Repton and it is wonderful to see Mitre making such a major contribution in this important area of school life, with a number of the teams being captained by Mitre girls this weekend and other Mitre girls having superb performances on the pitches.

This weekend saw the first full weekend of school hockey, with some great success in school fixtures against Dean Close.
Captain of the 2nd XI, Mitre Head of House, Emily Renshaw U6M had a superb first school game of the season, leading her team to a 4-1 victory. Emily herself scored a hat-trick, and demonstrated all of the characteristics of an excellent captain leading from the front and showing utter determination. Eleanor Sharples L6M scored the 4th goal in this match and made it an impressive performance from the Mitre Sixth Form. Emily Renshaw U6M has also this week been made Vice-Captain of 1st VII netball.
With the Mitre being represented by no less than nine of the eleven players in the U16 A team there were lots of chances for this talented and feisty group of girls to shine. They had a hard fought game, with captain Georgina Whitehouse 5M leading her team to a 2-2 draw against Dean Close. Again, both goals came off Mitre sticks with both Jessica Variava 5M and Lily Kitts 5M scoring to keep the team even with Dean Close in a tough match.

In the junior games, Natalie Mansfield 4M gave an excellent performance as captain of her side, and again led by example scoring one of the goals. In the U14A match especially notable was the performance of Mollie Papadopoullus 3M who was given “man of the match”.
In addition to school fixtures this week also saw the first House league matches (non-A team players) of the season. Mitre girls enthusiastically pulled on their new House tops and Mitre socks and headed down to the pitches. This was not our most successful first round (losses in both matches to the Abbey!) but in our normal way we were enthusiastic and determined and there was oddles of House spirit on show. Perhaps most impressive was the huge number of people wanting and willing to play, with both teams having more than enough players and even more happy to come and support the House. House league is one of the highlights for me of the hockey term, an opportunity for girls who don’t play A team hockey to play competitive fixtures in House colours against the other girls’ Houses. With the slightly shocking pink of our new tops it is certainly hard to miss the Mitre and we look forward to seeing what our 2nd round fixture brings on Tuesday! No doubt there will be lots of shouting from the sidelines and plenty of enthusiastic coaching from Mrs P!
