Science Priory
The concept of the Science Priory centres around a multidisciplinary environment which would not only house the three science departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, but also create a translational science centre preparing students for their careers in science and industry.
The Science Priory will comprise of classrooms, a refectory and club area that will become the Cafe Scientifique of the region! Reptonians and their peers will come to see the study of science not as the pursuit of three separate disciplines but as a translational activity showing how the sciences interact and are at the heart of the problems facing tomorrow’s generation in areas as diverse as information technology, heretics, the carbon footprint, space travel, chemical terrorism and the prevention of famine.
A lecture theatre, wireless library, animal centre, observatory and ecological research stations are all additional resources available to all. Key to the concept are the principles that the centre will enthuse the generalist as well as the specialist, and that the Centre will serve as a resource to the local scientific and educational communities as well as to the School.
The building will be sited on the Headmaster’s Field, a location both prominent and central within the School campus but also open to the community.
