Thank you Lower Sixth!

Thank you Lower Sixth!

A huge thank you and round of applause must go to the Garden Lower Sixth for their fantastic efforts on Saturday at our annual fundraising Cabaret. They worked tirelessly to organise an impressive Disney night with top notch entertainement. The evening started with Bucks Fizz in the Foyer where the Disney Castle hung majestically on a purple velvet backdrop.

There was excitement in the air as parents gathered in their fancy dress. Peter Pan sauntered past Buzz Light Year greeting Captain Jack on the way. Our parents had gone all out on the fancy dress so much so that we had to award 3 prizes to the best couples. Catherine Chiu played beautifully on the piano as guests entered the Disney Banqueting Room.

All the Junior Year groups performed and it was the best year yet as they were all incredible - talented and entertaining. B Block choral group who sang Colours of the Wind amazed everyone with their ability, whilst Georgia Hair and Hannah McMclarron both sang like they had been born on the stage. What a future we have in the B Block!

Sarah Wright was able to get the audience singing along with the help of Ellie and Clare and the words to 'I wanna be like you' being waved about! Siobhan performed for the last time but she went out in style and sang in her unique and beautiful style. Lauren enthralled us all with her tap dancing before Caitlin Furniss ended the evening with Geoffrey on the piano and it was pure class. We were also lucky to have the incredibly talented (X Factor you have no idea!) Sam Price perform 2 songs.

A Block raffle sellers sold record raffle tickets and although Mr Giles was a little nervous being an auctioneer he was quickly in his element and was off and running. It started slowly then just took off as bids started flying. Catherine Chiu's artwork was immensely popular raising over £800! Parents were so supportive by bringing in prizes, offering auction lots and bidding that the total for Garden's Sale of Work almost reaches £6,000 - a record and one it will be very hard to match next year! The evening was not yet over and the live music started the dancing for the girls and their parents. Thank you to Mr Mitchell, Mr Bournon, Teddy and Geoffrey for their brilliant renditions of the old classics such as Mustang Sally!

So Dreamlands School in Ghana gets it sports pitch named the Garden as well as raising money for other charities, local and international. Thank you from the bottom of our Garden hearts to all our wonderful parents and a big pat on the back to all the girls who put in so much time, effort and endless enthusiasm from the L6 to the B Block (and to Siobhan who helped as well as singing and Jade and Alice who raced back from hockey to help even with a bad leg injury!) Thank you also to Ange (who helped set up as well as cook) and Simon, our acomplished chefs and Sue our Matron who worked like a Trojan all day!

Here's to next year everyone!
