Take the Healthy Option – Eat Jazz for Supper!

On Friday15th St Wystan’s Church came alive with the sound of Jazz; the walls reverberated with Gershwin, the pews swung to Fats Waller and the audience rocked to Herbie H.

Repton School Jazz Band and The Combo entertained guests for the evening whilst they sat, ate and drank in the Church. Morag Hill, who masterminded the whole evening, said that the church had never heard anything like it for four hundred years! May it continue!

The Jazz Band under the leadership of Mr Fairbrother played favourites such as Lullaby of Birdland and Rock This House. Afterwards the School Jazz Combo with Mr Cadman played Comin’ Home Baby and Cantaloupe Island with several excellent solos from Neil Jones (Drums, U6N), Teddy Roberts (Bass, 5C), Tom Hume (Guitar, L6L), Kit Rees (Sax, L6M) and Jake Leese (Sax, 5P). To round up the evening, Tanya Dolgowska, one of our piano teachers, played for the guests as they ate dessert.

The evening was a resounding success and I am sure is one that will be repeated soon. Well done to all the musicians who took part and thank you to St Wystan’s for staging the event.
