Saturday afternoon saw the Mitre Senior A and B teams in good heart and spirit ready to play in the Senior netball competition.
On paper, the Mitre were certainly the "under-dogs", but came out in great spririts and played some excellent netball to secure a place in the A team competition final against The Field.
Against all the odds the A team drew in their first match against the Abbey, gaining some valuable lessons in defending the ball in the circle and accurate passing down the court. The B team also drew in their first match, which kept the girls in very high spirits! The second matches were against The Field who had a very strong side in both A and B team competitions. Emily Renshaw played some superb defensive netball in this match and despite losing the match - the teams both continued to play well. In their final match both teams played the Garden. There was some real netballing talent in the Garden A team, so it was good to see the Mitre working hard to ensure they kept playing good netball in order to take their first win of the afternoon, with both A and B teams winning in these matches.
The shock of the afternoon, was that The Abbey in the A team competition had also lost one match, drawn one and won one. They had also, like Mitre, scored 28 goals. The second place in the A tean competition was decided in a nail biting 6 minute final game, which the Mitre won comfortably in order to secure a place in the final against Field.
Well done, as always girls, on a great afternoon of competition played with great spirit and enthusiasm! We look forward to the final on March 18th.
