The Mitre had a wonderful time in the pool yesterday at the 6 by 25m canon relays held in honour of Alan Hawkins. Mr Hawkins has been the swimming coach at Repton for the last 15 years and yesterday marked his final day with us poolside. The afternoon was held to mark the years of inspiration he has given to Repton swimmers and as well as being attended by existing members of the school the event was supported by OR’s including old Mitre girl Eleanor Tyler who was Captain of Swimming in her U6th year at Repton. We are very much looking forward to having Mr Hawkins with us as a guest at House supper on Friday evening.
The Mitre did very well in the pool, with swimmers Hannah Barker U6M, Emma Stoll L6M, Charlotte Graham 5M, Eleanor Sharples 5M, Georgie Whitehouse 4M and Jessica Variava 4M swimming superbly to win the girl’s section of the canon relays in a “non-competitive” event!
To top off the afternoon Emma Stoll L6M was made Captain of Swimming. This is a hugely impressive accolade for Emma who has been a loyal member of the swim squad since joining the school new into the L6th this year. Emma follows a long tradition of Mitre girls as captain of swimming. A Mitre girl has captained the girl’s team for 3 of the last 4 years. We wish Emma every success as she leads the school in swimming competitions and events for the academic year 2011-12.
