Repton continues to provide a sports programme that has a positive influence on all ages and abilities of pupils. We aim to develop every pupil’s interest in sport, from aspiring internationals to those for whom sport is just part of a healthy lifestyle.
Our long tradition of sporting excellence gives us the experience required to maximise every pupil’s potential, regardless of the level of sport that they play. To help us achieve this, we offer outstanding facilities, and an exceptional team of coaches, comprised of former international sportsmen and women, professional coaches, staff solely dedicated to the running of our school sport, and committed academic staff. This level of support guarantees the best possible environment for every pupil to develop their skills, including the very elite.
Repton offers a choice of over twenty five sports, and an ever-increasing number of teams represent the School at all levels. Our programme is based around team sports, providing pupils with countless opportunities to represent the School. Pupils are expected to participate in the main sports during their junior years, before progressing to a wider range of options as they move up the School.
As well as organising prestigious fixtures against other schools, we have a programme of inter-house sport, enabling all pupils to experience competitive sport on a regular basis.
Achievements and Honours
Repton has enjoyed significant national sporting success in recent years, which was recognised when we were named ‘Independent School of the Year’ in 2008, before being highly commended for the same award in 2010. Since 2010 Repton has secured a total of 14 national titles, 8 further runners up places and reached 7 additional national finals.
The School is home to a significant number of elite performers, both at junior and senior international level. These athletes are provided with close personal tutoring and training, and in some cases a tailored academic programme can be developed for their individual needs, to support their sporting ambitions while safeguarding their vital academic development.

Helping us deliver such an outstanding sporting curriculum are our first-class facilities. A double water-based Astroturf, new sand-dressed Astroturf, indoor acrylic surface tennis courts and impressive swimming pool with viewing gallery are just the start of what Repton has to offer. Spread across our 150 acre site are numerous pitches, courts and playing surfaces to provide for all our sports and teams. Our football and cricket pitches are especially well regarded, with Derbyshire CCC and Manchester United youth teams both making use of the Square, our most prestigious pitch, right in the heart of the School.
As part of our continuing plan for development, we have recently extended our existing Sports Complex to include a top-quality Fitness and Conditioning Suite, which includes more than 20 cardio-vascular stations, as well as a free-weights area. The Swimming Pool and Sports Complex are open to pupils throughout the week, including before and after the School Day.
We have many links with academies and other sporting bodies, including a regular physiotherapy clinic giving all of our pupils direct access to world-class physiotherapy on site, improving the pupils’ recovery from injury and preserving their health and wellbeing in the long-term.
Our major sports throughout the year are:
|Michaelmas Term||Lent Term||Summer Term|
|Football (boys)||Hockey (boys)||Cricket (boys)|
||Tennis (girls and boys)
Other competitive sports on offer at Repton include Swimming, Athletics, Rugby, Fives, Badminton, Squash and Cross Country.
