Upper Sixth Former Sophie Donoghue has excelled herself this year, completing her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award within 12 months – the minimum time possible – an impressive achievement even before her other commitments, including as a senior member of the RAF Cadets, are considered.

In addition, Sophie attended the very prestigious Cadet Leadership Course this summer at RAF Cranwell. Having passed her fitness test and been selected based on references from the School’s RAF Officers, Sophie took part in a wide range of challenging activities, including timed 6am runs, intense 2 hour long drill sessions and numerous leadership tasks.

After a gruelling week which saw all but the highest achievers return home without completing the course, Sophie took part in a passing-out parade, receiving her well-earned badges in front of the Cadets’ proud parents.
After such a successful year, Sophie now hopes to go on to read medicine, perhaps with the support of the RAF, for whom she would like to become a medic – the School wishes her all the best in the pursuit of this admirable goal.
