Senior Football International at 17

Johnny Gorman (C), who is still in the Lower Sixth at Repton, has been selected for the full Northern Ireland football squad. Johnny, already a junior international with Northern Ireland and an academy footballer at Wolverhampton Wanderers, will start his senior career with a tour to the USA in the next few weeks where they will play against Turkey and Chile.

Johnny is a fabulous player with a wonderful combination of balance and skill and has had a really successful year at Repton, both on the football pitch and academically. He follows a programme of studies and training, created by the School and the football club, to allow him to pursue a career as a professional footballer whilst also studying for A Levels in English Literature, Art and Physical Education. It is a major commitment on his part, but also a sensible one given the uncertainties of a career in football. He is certainly making this work and, quite clearly, his football career seems to be flourishing.

Director of Football, Matthew Carrington said, “We hope that Johnny will serve as a great example to other boys looking to play high level football whilst continuing their education at Repton. It is clear to see that he is making huge strides in the professional game with both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Northern Ireland and we are all really pleased for him.”
