It was a beautiful afternoon for the 2nd round of the hockey league matches and with the sunshine came a superb performance from the Mitre senior team against a strong Garden opposition. The final score line of 5-0 to the Mitre is a great reflection of the hard work and sustained effort of this team who played some excellent hockey throughout the course of the afternoon.
There was some fantastic play from this team, who are starting to show real promise and their performance was no doubt improved by the excellent cheering and support from a host of Mitre members as well as a few shouts and encouragements from Mrs P!

Sophie Moorcroft had organized the team brilliantly and was quickly able to sort out some last minute injuries to send a full strength team down to the pitch. Elle White played a blinder in goal – saving some excellent shots from the Garden and performing some interesting dance moves when we scored at the other end! Emily Boyce played some nifty hockey and showed her skills at dodging around the players. She was helped by Ellie Willis and Sophie Griffiths who had some excellent play and provided some convincing goals from their sticks. It was also good to have the defence of Emily Welsh and Scarlett Flight who made sure that Garden was kept from entering their circle on too many occasions. Louise Buckland, Lizzy Duggleby and Wiebke Green also provided some solid performances and were relentless in their attack on the ball. Our secret weapon was Clare Gething Lewis – normally goalie for the U16A team – Clare played on pitch and proved to be a dogged and determined player. We are looking forward to our next match and hope to play just as well as a team.
