This year The Priory's house unison effort, The Beatle's 'Back in the USSR', was considered a real contender for a cup by the house. Confidence was therefore high, particularly as there were more trophies to be gained this year and it was felt that a few gruffer voices might succeed amongst the invariably more melodious girls' contributions. Alas, disappointment was to be ours again, despite a clear and tuneful delivery and an enthusiastic piece of conducting by Alex Willcox. The unison was accompanied on the piano by Sam Horan, who has just gained a place at Oxford to read Engineering, and it was he who also arranged the excellent harmony song, Take That's 'Patience'. Our performance on the night was first-rate and, though we did not win in a very strong field, it was a great pleasure to see the very high standard that could be achieved by an eclectic mixture of individuals, many of whom were more used to shouting on games fields for various school teams than warbling beatifically. The hard work which was put into the performance by boys who already led very busy school lives was rewarded with the satisfaction of a job very well done.
