Repton Strings Day

Repton Strings Day

Another inspiring day for young string players took place in the Music School on 29th April, with over 70 string students from 6 schools taking part in a full day of activities. The Navarra Quartet joined with our own string teaching staff to create ensembles for violin and viola, a cello choir and a harp group. As well as coaching, the day included mini concerts, tips on practice and ideas for instrument care.

The day ended with a final concert when Beldam Hall was packed full with parents and players. Students and staff all performed, showing the outstanding results from just one day of working together. Works performed included Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Bizet’s Carmen, Yellow Submarine and music by Mozart, Bach and Haydn.

Repton and Foremarke cello teacher Jenny Curtis commented “The 30 cellists did fantastically well, with an excellent sound and ensemble, right from when they started playing together today. There was a real buzz throughout the day and we were able to get so much achieved”. Head of Strings Graham Oppenheimer said “These events continue to show parents and teachers at prep schools just what we are able to do with string players at Repton”.

There is a week of string playing in the summer with Repton Stringfest from August 9th to 13th, following on from last year’s hugely successful event. Details can be found in the Enterprises section of this website.
