Repton School has always forged strong international links and many Reptonians have gone on to fill important roles in international relations, from ambassadors to High Commissioners, as well as many more with careers in a wide range of multinational corporations.
Today, pupils from all over the world travel to be educated at Repton; from Japan to Russia, Bulgaria to Zambia, ever strengthening our international outlook. Central to the Repton philosophy is to develop in each pupil a sense that they will one day live and work in a global society and the importance of understanding and respecting different cultures.
The creation of Repton Dubai has been an important element in the development of this philosophy. Opened in 2007 to coincide with Repton School’s 450th anniversary, Repton Dubai is the premier British curriculum school and the first boarding school in the Middle-East. Strong, practical links between the two schools are being developed to ensure the relationship is vibrant and with relevant meaning to our pupils.
Our goal for Repton Dubai is to create the Middle East’s leading international school, rooted in the many and varied strengths of historic Repton School. Situated on a 1.3million square foot area in Nad Al Sheba 3 -4, it is the largest school in the region. The spacious campus is fitted with the latest state-of-the-art facilities and amenities for the highest standards of boarding accommodation, education and a vast array of activities. The English National Curriculum is taught and Repton Dubai has also recently been granted authorisation to become an International Baccalaureate Diploma School.
Ties between both schools are strong, from the staff to the uniform, from the houses to the Arch. Two members of the governing body of Repton are permanent members of the Repton Dubai board, ensuring the greatest possible coherence between the two schools at all levels. There are also striking similarities in traditions and institutional language; in fact everything that goes into producing a common ethos and two caring, friendly and purposeful school environments some three thousand miles apart.
Dubai Exchange
As part of the ongoing links with Repton Dubai, a group of twelve A Block pupils are partaking in an exciting exchange trip from the 11th to the 26th March this year.
While in Dubai, they will follow a full academic programme, closely linked in terms of subjects to the curriculum they follow here at Repton. This is a great opportunity for our pupils to experience and learn from a new culture.
A Dubai Exchange Blog has been set up so that you can follow their progress in Dubai, which will be updated both by Mr Clark and the pupils themselves. You can expect to read about impressions of a different school, a new environment and culture, and what they have been studying in lessons - no doubt they will also be keen to describe new foods, fun activities and of course new friends.
