The girls were not given the opportunity to extend The Abbey's domination of The Barnes Squad drill cup, as it was decided not to feature it as a House competition this year. The Russell Cup was retained however and as Harriet Welch and Hannah Slater report, our team had a great time completing the varied tasks they were set. They also went on to win!

On Wednesday 17th March, members of the Lower 6th and O-block took part in the Russell Cup, a house competition which was split into two parts, an outdoor physical event where the girls firstly raft raced and then went on to complete an obstacle course and an indoor skills competition. The outdoor events included; abseiling, scramble nets and a rope course. The team successfully managed to steer their raft around the course without falling in and tackle the obstacle course with great enthusiasm.
The indoor team had a few more events, with an indoor assault course, where although Daisy and Lucy managed to fall off the first obstacle, we still went on to complete the course in good time with lots of team work and encouragement. Next it was on to the first aid stand where we treated bodies and evacuated a dead body from the scene of an explosion before some of the living casualties. Then we had a construction task and indoor pool command task where we sank our raft. Lastly we finished with a navigation stand.
We all had a great afternoon and there were fantastic displays of enthusiasm from all the competitors and supporters.
