Peter Stones - Trombonist Returns

Peter Stones - Trombonist Returns

Wednesday saw a very special concert for regular attendees of the Subscription Series and new visitors alike. Peter Stones, having left as a pupil in 2007, returned to Repton.

Peter is coming to the end of his undergraduate course at The Birmingham Conservatoire of Music. A highly talented trombonist, he brought a trumpeter friend from College, Sean Pepper, to give the final evening recital of this year’s programme. He invited Head of Keyboard Christine Palmer to accompany them, so it was just like old times!

They gave an excellent and varied performance, with repertoire ranging from Weber to Brad Edwards (1960 -) finishing with a very entertaining version for brass of Rossini’s Cats' Duet. Blue Wolf, composed by Edwards was a particularly interesting highlight. Peter played with such confidence and with generous, rewarding tone; it was a pleasure to see how far he has progressed from his time here. Sean Pepper is clearly a highly talented player and his fast passagework was dazzling.  The evening was an inspiration to those who remember Peter as a school boy.

We will shortly be welcoming Mr Jeremy Rouse back to Repton for the final recital of this year. Jeremy was Assistant Director of Music until he moved to Bedford School in 2007. He will be playing in Chapel on Sunday 19th June, at 7.15pm.
