The Steeplechase
The pre-race buzz, the nerves and the sports drinks all stimulate the release of adrenalin. Each individual with his own goal: the top 100, the top 5 or perhaps even to be first out of the gate. One must admire the admirable resolve of Leo Watton, despite "injury", pushing and pushing towards the gate at full sprint, immediately after the starting pistol sounded. Unfortunately Leo was pipped to the first gate by a member of Priory. 100 meters down 5.5 miles to go!
After leaving the Paddock the leading pack in the Senior race was dominated by the Orchard boys, Bracegirdle, Fearn and Flight. Despite very strong competition the Orchard boys found the mental and physical strength to continue to push on throughout the race. Askew Hill, the dreaded 200m hill: it has been the downfall of many top runners but it was no match for the junior or senior runners from the Orchard.
Strong performances from the entire House led to 2nd place in both the Senior and Junior inter-house competitions. This consistency led to an aggregate house victory. A great day all round for the House and a real testament to the tenacity and spirit of the house as a whole.
Real credit and congratulations are due also to those who really excelled themselves.
