On Tuesday 16th March Sam Boyle (B Block) made the long journey to Crystal Palace to compete in the Mount-Haes Epee section of the Public School Fencing Championship. Over 120 Under 14 boys from HMC schools had entered and, after the first round in which Sam was unbeaten with no hits scored against him, Sam was provisionally seeded number 1. Unbeaten in round 2, Sam made it through to the knock-out stage retaining the top seed. Having made it all the way through to the final, Sam was eventually beaten by a very strong GB fencer from Dulwich, but he still walked away with the fantastic achievement of securing the silver medal. To add to a wonderful day, Sam received the news that he had become one of the youngest boys ever to be accepted on the British Fencing National Academy training day to be held in the Easter holidays. Many congratulations!
