Nailbiting Afternoon - Saved the Best till Last!

Field reached the knockout final of both senior and junior competitions. The first game was against Mitre which was always going to be tough because their side was made up entirely of A team players. Field soaked up the initial pressure and defended fiercely only conceding a goal late on in the first half from a short corner. In the second half the girl’s confidence increased and, led brilliantly by Lowri, they fought back. In the last quarterof the game it looked as if they might draw level with five or six short corners in a row. However, the Mitre defence held fast to give them a hard-earned victory 0 – 1.

In the senior competition Field faced Abbey who had three international players in their team! However, right from the outset it was a much closer game with girls from 3rd XI and U16 proving a match for the school's stars. At half time the scores were still level at 0 –0. In the second half there were good chances atboth ends before Megan put Field ahead with a stunning goal. Abbey fought back and despite some heroic work from the defence, they equalised. Still the match could have gone either way but at full time the result was 1 – 1 leading tonail biting penalty flicks. First blood went to Field with not just one, but 2 fantastic saves from Annabelle and it looked as if nothing would get past her. Abbey did not lose heart and fought back to 3 -3 and after 5 flicks. Yet another save meant that a goal from Field would be enough. Fittingly, Sophie, who had led the team superbly throughout the afternoon, stepped up and slotted the ball neatly into the net to secure victory. Congratulations must go to all players in both competitions for the skill and spirit with which they played the games!
