Mitre win some silverware in annual music comps!!

Old girls of the Mitre reading this will be delighted to hear that Mitre have finally gained some silverware in the house music competitions with a highly commended prize in the Harmony competition on Saturday night!

Before this however we had the Unison on Friday night. The U6th had chosen “One Thing” by One Direction for its liveliness and fun and they pulled off a great rendition of it on the evening. The actions far outnumbered the words, and as ever Mitre gave it their all! The adjudicator was keen to point out our enthusiasm and energy on stage. He also mentioned the excellent piano playing from Emma Stoll U6M, who was one of just two pupils to accompany their Houses on the night. The photo in this article shows the moment on the night when Wiebke Green U6M, who has done a superb job of conducting the Unisons, put the House at ease by holding up a picture of Harry Styles (from One Direction), and said he was impressed with the technique used here to relax the House before their performance. If there had been a prize for actions we would have won hands down, the prize on the night however was seeing the House have such fun on stage and enjoy the chance to work together and sing their hearts out – well done to all of you!

On Saturday night the harmony group, led by Rose Knight U6M, were in action. Rose had done an excellent job of creating Mitre’s own version of “Wayfaring Stranger”. The girls had done all of the preparation work themselves and together with Rose there was a small ensemble consisting of Charlotte Graham L6M, Eleanor Sharples L6M, Elle White U6M, Wiebke Green U6, Isabella Florence-Jukes 3M, Katie Jankinson 3M and Rebecca Williams 3M. Mitre opened the evening with their harmony rendition and the adjudicator was quick to highlight how impressed he was with the steady beat the girls held throughout the performance. He also liked the way the soloists sang their parts so beautifully and highlighted the wonderful blending of voices by Isabella and Charlotte. It is especially exciting to have been awarded the prize for the highly commended Girls’ House with such a young harmony group, with three B Block girls in the group. This bodes very well for the years to come and we are very proud indeed of what the girls achieved this weekend.

Overall, it has been a great weekend for Mitre. The hard work and preparation of the last few weeks has been well rewarded with two evenings of fun and enjoyment and let’s face it – we are just a little bit chuffed to have come away with some silverware for the shelf as the Highly Commended Girls’ House in the competition! Most impressive however has been the fact that these efforts were entirely girl led – and it is this that makes their achievement even more outstanding!
