Last term saw the inaugural award of the House art cup made by the art department in the final week of term. The cup is named “The Dennis Hawkins Memorial House Art Trophy” and is named after the Director of Art at Repton who led the department between 1952 and 1985. The cup is specifically awarded to the House that is best decorated with Art.

Mitre won the prize in recognition of the way that the House was decorated with a huge variety of art from pieces gathered across the course of the last four years. These range from a large replica of “Whistle jacket” which adorns the main stairwell to A level and GCSE preparation pieces which are displayed all over the House. There is also art on display which has been prepared by pupils outside the classroom, including a large canvas painted in a Sunday afternoon “graffiti” workshop.
It was lovely to hear that members of the judging committee felt that the House was made to feel a warm and friendly place to live, in large part due to the amount of art work on show in the House.
Well done to all girls, past and present, who have contributed art to the House. It really is wonderful to have the work you have produced inspiring others as they walk past it in the corridors and as a talking point for vistors.
