Mitre win House badminton!

Mitre win House badminton!

After a lovely lie in and delicious brunch, the Mitre this afternoon went down to the Sports Hall to compete in the inter-House badminton. This is not a competition Mitre, as a girl’s House, has ever won so we had high hopes for our team. The line-up included Head of House, Emily Renshaw U6M, Captain of Badminton Kathy Chen U6M, Tennis players Lottie Jameson U6M and Isabelle Hearnshaw L6M and keen Mitre sportswomen Rosie Cordingley L6M and Charlotte Graham L6M. The promise of a Bull’s Head pizza if we won certainly kept spirits high and we were very grateful to the support of Steph Lake L6M and Joshua who was our official photographer on the day.

We were drawn to play the Abbey in the semi-final and played some cracking matches to win 8 of the 9 games. This proved excellent practice and helped by some coaching tips from Kathy the team started to play some tactical badminton! It was excellent to see the enthusiasm matched by some excellent serves and returns and it was clear the pairs had all found their stride.

The final was always going to be tough. The Garden have won the competition for the last three years and 3 of the members of last year’s winning team were on the courts this afternoon. The Mitre did very well taking an early lead in the first round and winning these initial rubbers gave the team the confidence they needed to go forward. The final score was 5-4, with Mitre taking the win.

The girls had a great afternoon – much fun was had by all and the atmosphere was lovely. Many thanks indeed to Mr Atwood for his organisation of the event and to all the girls who played. Off to the Bulls Head it is ....
