The Tuesday before half term saw the Mitre battling to secure a place in the Junior House match finals in hockey. The team consisted of some excellent players from both the B and A Block A teams, but the Garden put up some very strong resistance. Grace Sanderson and Pip Sanders in Garden A block played some excellent hockey and showed some skilled and determined play, passing the ball quickly down the pitch and creating many opportunities. Many excellent shots on goal were saved by some superb keeping from Clare Gething Lewis. Garden were aided by their own goalie Sophie Charlesworth who played superbly in goal.
Mitre kept pushing for goals, and in the end came through with Eleanor Sharples scoring just before half term. Once the team got their rhythm they were able to add to this with a second goal from Phoebe Roberts in the second half of the match. There was some superb play on the day from Lilli Kettlewell and also from Charlotte Graham who helped to create some excellent chances for the Mitre team. The final score was 2-1, was a fair reflection of Garden’s determined play and of Mitre finding their form in the second half of the match. The Mitre now face Field in the finals in the final week of this term.
