Sunday night saw the Beldham Hall once again filled with the sound of beautiful music. Mitre girls made a valuable contribution to the first keyboards concert of its kind at Repton. Kit Rees (L6) kicked things off from a Mitre perspective with a great performance of C.P.E Bach's Sofeggietto on the Harpsicord - an instrument not altogether common these days!
Harriet Yeung (who earlier this year won the piano cup) treated us to an impressive piece of Mozart (Allegro Assai, Sonata in C minor) which she played fantastically well.
Kit Rees was then back on stage, this time on the piano, with La Cinquetaine, by J. Gabriel-Marie, also played beautifully.
Kiki Betts Dean (who was joint winner of the piano cup with Harriet) then rounded off the first half of the concert with a Chopin, Fantasie-Impromptu in C#m; her skill leaving the audience stunned, and wanting to hear more.
The second half showed a greater representation from the boys' houses, with truly gifted pianists covering an excellent range of music. The concert itself finished with a quartet including both Harriet and Kiki. It was lovely to hear four such talented musicians close proceedings for us.
Other than the student performers, we were afforded the pleasure of hearing some of the music staff themselves play, as well as a noteworthy performance from Messers Dahl, McClary and Sanderson, who performed Cornick's Benedot Breeze (using two pianos rather than the traditional one) to the great delight of the audience.
Our sincere thanks to Mrs Palmer, head of keyboards, who not only organised the concert, but also accompanied so beautifully a staggering number of the performers. We look forward to having more keyboards concerts in the future!
