This afternoon saw a wonderful afternoon of competition, which show-cased some superb singing talent across the school and the outstanding work being done by the music staff with a range of ages and voices.
Mitre's part in the competition began with Charlotte Graham singing "Der Nussbaum" by Schumann in the Junior Girls' Voices section of the competition. She sang with real conviction and confidence and won the competition in a very tough class. It is the first time the Mitre has won the cup in 5 years - so a very impressive effort by Charlotte! Charlotte also sang wonderfully in the Popular song contest, gaining more comments of admiration from Judge Paul Spicer.
The Mitre also had some very strong entries in both the Senior Girls' Voices and Popular Song competition. Emma Monteiro sang a wonderful piece by Schubert in the first class, about the life of a doomed trout, which was admired by many. Kiki Betts-Dean and Hannah Fullelove also gave some very assured performances putting into their pieces much of what they have learnt across the course of the year. In the popular song competition, Paul Spicer gave Emma a "Highly Commended" position for her rendition of "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man". She took the whole audience on a real journey with her rendition of this piece, moving around the piano and giving a truly excellent performance. We very much look forward to seeing her perform in Charity Cabaret in a few weeks time.
A wonderful afternoon of music, and well done girls on all of your excellent performances and the hard work you had put into preparing them. You really did bring the Beldham Hall alive!
