Mitre Senior netballers storm to victory!

Mitre Senior netballers storm to victory!

The girls Senior House netball was played yesterday afternoon in a fast and furious indoor tournament, which had had to move to the Sports Hall due to the wet and windy conditions outside.

The Mitre B team had a fantastic afternoon. They narrowly beat the Abbey in their first match, before going on to secure wins in the other first round matches against Field and Garden. This took them into the final, against The Field. The girls played some superb netball and did a wonderful job to secure a comfortable win in the competition. Our secret weapon was Lottie Jameson, who we had seconded from the elite tennis programme. She did a wonderful job as shooter and managed to shoot some superb goals from the edge of the D. Also critical were Sophie Davies at Centre and Rosie Cordingley at GD who threw themselves onto the floor several times during the afternoon as they tried to intercept the ball! There was also some determined play from Laura Clague who proved a critical player at wing, taking interceptions and turning the ball around. All the girls played well and it was lovely to have support on the gallery from many of the Junior year groups.

The A team competition was also great fun! The girls really found their rhythm and by the third game against the Garden had a comfortable pace, and won this match by a convincing margin. This game showed them playing some lovely netball with a fluid movement of the ball down the Court and some superb feeding of the circle for the shooters. This team did not make it into the finals of the A team competition, but worked well as a team and played some excellent netball.

Both teams played some brilliant netball and showed determination and team work. There was also a lot of laughter on court which contributed to the enjoyment of the afternoon. Our thanks for Miss O and Mrs Jenkinson for organising such a fun afternoon and to the many Mitre supporters who came to cheer on the teams.
