The last two days of term saw the athletics finals, superbly organized by Mrs Bordoli take place. This is the last time that Mrs Bordoli will organize the competition and we would like to thank her for all she did to make the two days so enjoyable and memorable. We were blessed with lovely sunny conditions and it was wonderful to see the whole House out, either supporting, or taking part in events.
Mitre put in a very strong performance across the two days and recorded some stunning results including a school record being broken in the Junior shot by Olivia Omilana 3M. Other superb individual performances and wins were recorded in the Junior girls section of the competition by Lili Kettlewell 4M (300m) and Jasmine Douglas 4M (High Jump). The intermediate girls also performed wonderfully with Georgie Whitehouse 4M winning two of the competitions (800m and Triple Jump) and Georgia Gillbanks 4M also having great success (Long Jump). There were also some excellent performances from the Senior girls. Emily Renshaw L6M had a great afternoon taking wins in both the shot and discuss. Hannah Barker U6M won the Long Jump and Phoebe Walters 5M ran superbly to take the open 1,500m title, closely followed by Tessa Collins 3M. The Mitre also did very well to win the 4 by 100m relay in the senior girls part of the competition.

The House was leading by the end of the first day, which put us in a strong position going into the running events on the final day. A key reason for the strength of the first day performance was that Mitre had a girl competing in every available competition. This meant we gained points for entering and this helped to boost the overall results and put us in a strong position ahead of day two. A special mention should go to Hannah Barker U6, Sophie Moorcroft L6 and Emily Boyce L6 who put in so much effort to organizing the teams. One other thing to mention is the wonderful way in which members of the House volunteered to take part – having not been selected for events – there was a queue of girls outside my office who were very keen to be entered for events! You could not ask for a better show of House spirit than this.
The final results were: Mitre, 273, Garden, 228, Abbey, Field, 164 and Abbey 127. This result is a wonderful reflection of team effort and the girls should be delighted with their performance. It means the Mitre wins the overall athletics cup for the fourth consecutive year!

Well done on a superb effort in this final event of the year girls, and thank you to all those who took part and especially to a number of A Block girls who stepped in to fill in gaps at the last minute. It was a tremendous show of House spirit and just what was needed to boost our overall performance. Head of House Hannah Barker U6M, was very proud to collect the cup on behalf of the House having been an excellent captain of athletics this year.
