Mitre retain the trophy - Steeplechase winners – Senior and Junior again!!!

It was a wonderful afternoon for Mitre as we competed in the hotly contested whole- school Steeplechase. Mitre went down to the event with the cups from last year, for both Junior and the Senior competitions, and the pressure was on to do well again this year!

The Junior girls were the first to race, setting off at 2.15pm on a lovely sunny and bright afternoon. In these perfect conditions the girls were on great form and certainly very eager to run! There was a wonderful sprint to the gate, and a sea of Mitre pink tops looked fantastic as the girls eagerly started the race! It was only 20 minutes later that after the 2.5 miles the girls started coming back. The first Mitre girl through the gate was Georgie Whitehouse (winner of first B Block girl back last year), who was just behind the front marker as she came into the paddock. Georgie showed her customary determination as she sprinted to the finish in a nail-biting 1-2 that saw Georgie just take 1st place to win the Junior competition. Georgie was closely followed by Rosie Cordingley in 3rd place, and Phoebe Walters who came in 4th. The stream of Mitre tops did not stop there with 8 of the top 10 runners coming in from the Mitre! We were so proud of the girls as they ran in to complete the race. The win was even more impressive given that a number of Junior girls had sucummbed to illness and were not fit to run.

The Senior girls consisted of the entire L6th year group and also a number of U6th who had kindly agreed to run on this important occasion. On the day these U6th runners made all the difference and helped Mitre to take a well deserved win. Some superb running saw Laura Clague coming in 3rd, Hannah Barker 4th, Sophie Davies 5th, Faye Bilsland 8th, Jenny Korotkova 9th and Lottie Jameson 10th. It was wonderful to see the Senior girls re-tain the trophy for the second consecutive year and great to see them giving their all for the House. Our special thanks goes to the U6th runners – Hannah Barker, Sophie Davies, Harriet Cornish, Bella Butters, Ellie Rees, Jenny Korotkova who were so critical in the Senior victory and who did an amazing job representing the House on this occasion – you are all stars!

Every girl did the House proud this afternoon. Not only were the runners superb but the supporters too did a fabulous job cheering on each of the Mitre finishers. It was so lovely to have the whole House at the event and wonderful to see each and every girl putting in their very best effort as part of the Mitre team. Today was not all about individual performance but about a collective determination to pull together and do the best possible for the House. What a wonderful way to end a hugely busy and successful half term- well done!
