Mitre girls are very busy in the lead up to the Sale of Work Day this Saturday.
Today saw the annual “Wear What You Dare” day result in a number of fabulous outfits from members of the House. The U6th choose to come as “Hogwarts” and it was wonderful to see the array of outfits from Harry Potter himself, to a death eater, golden snitch and even a nimbus 2000 broomstick! Also dressed up were Hagrid and Professor Snape. One of the highlights of the day for the U6th was lunchtime when the younger years who had bought them as “slaves” for the day arranged an entertaining set of lunchtime activities – Mr Giles was proposed to by two separate members of the U6th, a death eater sang and danced to the full dining room, daily notices were rapped and tables were cleared by various members of Hogwarts. A defining moment was also a wand fight (in this case bananas) between Professor Snape and Ron Weasley. Some additional announcements were also made during lunch and all were in great spirit and heart.
Other year groups also embraced the theme (as pictures in the Sale of Work Gallery show), and dressed up in outfits ranging from babies in full size baby grows to super heroes. There was a great deal of imagination on show, not least in the B Block who were dressed as cats and bunnies, complete with ears!
Sale of Work on Saturday will see the Mitre selling its traditional apple crumbles. These are made with apples picked from the Mitre orchard by the girls, and then peeled, sliced and cooked by them also – get to the stall quickly before they sell out! In addition Mitre will have a stall with delicious hot chocolate on sale. This year we also have a “win a teddy” stall, and will be in charge of a pop corn machine just inside the arch.
The L6th have been working hard in preparation for the day, following on from our highly successful Parent’s dinner, and there is no doubt lots of fun will be had by all. We look forward to welcoming you on Saturday if you are able to come.
