Mitre Junior girls storm stage in Junior school play!

It was lovely last night to see almost all of the Mitre B Block on stage in the Junior school play – “The Comedy of Errors”.

From “naughty nuns” to “weekend sailors” (Phoebe Roberts) all of the girls made a great impression and had the audience transfixed as they re-created the city of Ephesus in the impressive setting of “The Garth”. A group of three B Block girls in the form of Amy Davies, Clare Gething Lewis and Jessica Variava were cast as the “naughty nuns” and it was great fun to see them as they meandered around the “city of Ephesus”.

It was also wonderful to be greeted with a glass of wine by Georgia Gillbanks, as one of the waitresses in Dora’s Souvlaki bar. Daisy Collins helped to set the scene as a tourist and Rachel Higgins and Maddy Whitten performed well as business customers wondering around the re-created market place.

As well as those on the stage it was wonderful to have some live music created by members of “Band Aid”. Lili Kettlewell once again took to the drums for this production, and she was ably assisted by Jasmine Douglas on the electric guitar. This live music added an extra dimension to the production and I was pleased to see girls getting involved in the play by using their very considerable musical talents.

As well as seeing Mitre girls on stage, it was great to see members of the L6th involved as “assistant directors”. Both Hannah Fullelove and Tori Leavesley had an important role to play as they helped Mr Leavesley in his direction of the play.

This outdoor production was an inspired piece of drama, and a very clever use of the wonderful Repton buildings and especially the buildings of the old abbey. Well done girls once again on getting involved in the extra-curricular activities – I am delighted to see you involving yourselves so enthusiastically!
