Mitre Girls Go For Gold

Mitre Girls Go For Gold

Four of our B-Block girls have achieved their Gold Level Reading Award this term. All members of B-Block work towards the Award as part of the English Department’s initiative to encourage pupils to read widely and challenge themselves in relation to the texts they are selecting. The texts are graded according to the complexity of the language employed and themes they explore.

M. Whitten, J. Variava, C. Gething-Lewis and A. Davies have all read the required number of books at Gold Level to attain this Award. They will now be presented with Library vouchers which they can put towards the purchase of a new book of their choice.

The books they have read this term include ‘Little Women’ by Louisa May Alcott, ‘Rebecca’ by Daphne du Maurier and ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ by Jodi Picoult. Interestingly, this last has been a particularly popular selection amongst Mitre B-Blockers this term and Amy said that she thought this was due to the fact that the conflicting themes of sisterly love and duty were ones to which they could all relate.

Congratulations to all of the girls on their achievement.
