Many congratulations to the three Mitre L6th who did superbly in their English Speaking Board, Grade VIII examinations this term.
Serena Slack gained a distinction for her ESB examination. Her presentation was based on the phenomenon of “Size Zero” and her exploration of this fascinating topic included a discussion based on a poem about anorexia.
Emma Clarke used her talk to speak about the women’s movements and especially the impact of the suffragettes. She gained a Merit Plus for her presentation and group discussion. She based some of this around discussion of Friedman’s – “The Feminine Mystique” and showed wonderful insight into the exploration of the women’s rights movement.
There was also a Merit Plus awarded to Wiebke Green who based her presentation on the very interesting topic of Dreams. Her presentation included a reading from Kafka, the culturally influential German novelist.
The work for the ESB is done outside of lessons, with topics chosen to suite the interests of individual pupils. All three girls chose to enter themselves and it is wonderful to see their hard work rewarded with these superb grades. Once again, they have demonstrated the importance of taking on new challenges and the value of independent work and preparation. A superb result for all the girls – well done indeed.
