The opening public night of the school Cabaret saw some wonderful performances from Mitre girls, both on stage and in the Front of House team. With no fewer than twenty Mitre girls on stage there was an immense amount of Mitre talent on show, and we were very proud watching from our table at the front of the House!
The traditional contribution of the Mitre to Cabaret has been the “Mitre dance”. This year the dance was superbly choreographed by Celia Mottershead (U6M) to the song “Fever”. The dancers looked wonderful in their masks and black outfits and the dance was slick and brilliantly conceived. It was lovely to see so many Mitre A Block and O Block in the dance, and I hope this will have sparked their ambitions for the coming years. Many congratulations to Celia and her team of Mitre dancers.
There were also some excellent performances from other Mitre girls, including Emily Elliot (U6M), Kate Dyer (L6M) and Ellie Rees (L6M) in the dance performed to “Bad Boys”. The lead vocalist for this song was Tamsin Bowers (L6M) who sounded great with her rendition of the song.
There was plenty of other musical talent on stage too. Emma Monteiro (L6M) sang a haunting rendition of “Over the Rainbow”, capturing the audience with her beautiful interpretation of the song. There was also some talented jazz playing from Kit Rees (L6M), Eva Lo (L6M) and Elizabeth Duggleby (4M) who played an important part in providing music to accompany many of the acts.
There were a number of girls who took to the stage for a variety of different acts – among them Kiki Betts Dean (L6M), Hannah Fullelove (L6M) and Harriet Yeung (U6M). It was a real delight to see Harriet on the stage for so much of the evening and especially in her superb “Tapas” dance which stunned the audience and was a powerful piece of dramatic dance.
One of the real Mitre stars of the night was Lili Kettlewell (3M), who in the absence of the key drummer at the U18 football final, took to the kit and drummed a superb night. She was a real star of the show and performed superbly with the House band.
It was lovely to know that backstage there was also lots of Mitre support with Amelia Etherington and Victoria Leavesley acting as off-stage managers and keeping the cast in check – no mean feat!
Well done too to Emily Burtwistle, who led a wonderful team at Front of House and made sure that her team looked after all the guests superbly.
Yet another triumph girls and well done indeed on all of your hard work and commitment. You were wonderful and helped to put on a magnificent show.
