Midlands Successes

All three boys’ hockey teams (U14, U16 and U18) were in action last week in the Midlands Regional Finals at Cannock HC. The U14s won their pool matches with ease but their semi-final against KES Birmingham was a nail biting affair and Repton squeezed through on penalties. This set up a final against Oakham and despite having the majority of possession the team was unable to score and now must play Exeter School, the runners-up from the West, to reach the National Finals.

A tough pool of Bromsgrove, Trent and Bablake, faced the U16 team but a win and a draw set up a semi-final against Oakham. This was a close match but the team managed an excellent 3-2 win to reach the Midlands final against Trent who were last year’s runners-up in the National Finals. Unfortunately Trent were too strong and the boys now face Millfield, as West runners-up.

The U18 team retained their Midlands title by playing some excellent hockey and staying composed and calm under pressure. Knowing that the two finalist teams would progress to the National Finals, the boys found themselves in a tough semi-final against Solihull School but edged through with a 2 – 0 win. In the final, against Bromsgrove, the team was very controlled and came out on top 2-0 winners. With the boys looking forward to a tour to Bloemendaal at Easter, they will be approaching the National Finals in good shape.

Whilst the Finals are in May, Friday marked the end of two very successful terms of hockey for the School’s twenty two hockey teams. As holders of six, and runner-up in two, out of a possible ten Midlands titles and two National hockey titles, all pupils can be very proud of their achievements this year.
